Guild Recruitment Information

Occam's Razor is a guild for people who see encounters as puzzles, raids as adventures, loot as extraneous, and guild as family. We are intelligent, patient, friendly and mature, and we are seeking similar people to join our ranks. We value a good time over progression, skill and finesse over loots, and camaraderie over individual gain. At the same time we know that progressing almost always brings a good time, that loots are the inevitable consequence of skill and finesse in disciplined raids, and that each individual's gain is a victory for all of us.

We believe strongly that a guild built on strong philosophical principles and mature and intelligent raiders will provide a much better in-game environment than a standard guild of egomaniacal children. We believe in raiding smarter, rather than harder, and treating each and every guild member like a decent human being, rather than a tool for the guild's "progress".

Please read our Guild's Recruitment Letter, our Figurehead's Statement, and familiarize yourself with our policies. Be sure that you are compatible with our guild goals and environment, and vice versa, before applying.

The Recruitment Officers (Rainx and Luann)

General Information

Expectations

Occam's Razor is a dedicated PvE raiding guild, and all aspects of your character, such as gear, talents, and professions should reflect your desire to bring your best possible effort to each of our raids. While we have 9 hours of official raid time each week, all active members are expected to use time outside of guild raids to improve their character.

You must also be willing to adapt your character to the guild's changing needs. This may involve a new talent specialization, or farming materials to craft specialized items such as resistance gear. While the guild can assist with some gear deficiencies, we cannot do so at the expense of our own raiding goals.

Current Recruitment

At the moment Occam's Razor is pushing through Hard Mode content in Icecrown Citadel, and as such there is a certain minimal level of gear that is required in order to keep up with us. If your character does not already have 251 gear at the least, then it will be very difficult for us to offer you a trial spot during our raids. Please make every effort to acquire as much gear as possible on your own, prior to applying.

We are currently interested in players in the following classes and specializations:

Deathknight: Any DPS
Paladin: Holy
Shaman: Restoration
Druid: Balance, Feral

More information on specific class requirements can be found on the menu to the left. While we try to keep this list up to date, these targets are always subject to change.

While we are not specifically looking for applicants other than those listed above, Occam's Razor always welcomes applications from any exceptional player who is interested in raiding with our guild.

Attendance

Our current raid schedule appears on the menu to the left. Because we use considerably fewer official raid hours than many other raiding guilds, it is important that our members strive for 100% attendance. While we are generally understanding of the real-life commitments that arise, those who regularly miss our minimal attendance requirements may be removed from the guild.

Our raid times are generally firm. Raid invites begin 20 minutes before the raid begins, and the raid ends as close to 10pm as possible. All raiders are expected to be fully prepared and ready to pull by 7pm.

Applying to Occam's Razor

Application Form

To apply to Occam's Razor, use the following link to find our guild Application Form. You should copy and paste a completed version of this application to our guild forums.

What happens next?

Usually, if the recruitment officers feel that your application is worth considering, we will try to give you a trial run during our raids. We are looking for players that will help us build our guild community, so be prepared to answer questions and chat with our guild members through the recruitment forums, and in game.

We pride ourselves in taking our time to make sure that an applicant is a good fit for our guild, so don't be discouraged if you think the application is taking a while. Just ask us how your application is going, and remind us that you're still interested.

If you are invited into the guild, you will still have to pass an initiate period before given full membership. Membership requires that an initiate stand out as an excellent and mature player, and is not given out by default for simply not performing poorly. There will also be continuing expectations for attendance, performance, and maturity. However, once you are a part of our guild family, we will do our best to help support you in making the most of your game experience!
